IWC’s collaboration with Mercedes-AMG began in 2004. As early as 2013, IWC became the “Official Engineering Partner” of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1™ Team and witnessed the Mercedes team win a total of eight team championships from 2014 to 2021. The IWC Pilot’s Mark XX Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team watch is based on the Mark XX. The Mark series of watches is based on the Mark 10 military watch that was born during World War II. It has been continuously updated over the years until the latest iteration of the Pilot’s Mark watch was released in 2022, which has continued to the Mark XX.
The size of the watch is the same as the regular Mark XX, with a 40mm case and a thickness of 10.6mm, which is suitable for most people. The case is made of matte sandblasted titanium. IWC Pilot’s watches are basically matte-finished, which is also due to the actual needs of pilots. After all, IWC’s flight watches are generally the same as those worn by pilots, so the possibility of glare caused by polished surfaces is avoided as much as possible, which is also applicable to F1 drivers and busy engineers and technicians.
The black dial has a classic cockpit instrument style. All indication designs, including the hour markers, hands, minute track, triangle logo, and calendar display numbers, are embellished with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team’s iconic PETRONAS Green. This emerald green color also makes the Mark XX’s main functional practicality and easy-to-read display clearer and more intuitive. The hour and minute hands, as well as the important 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock positions, including the triangle logo, are coated with Super-LumiNova®.
